VCUHS NORTH HOSPITAL 2ND FLOOR

Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system design for the renovation of an existing burn unit at VCU Health Systems North Hospital. The project included multiple simulation labs, classrooms, and support spaces to be used for medical student education. The mechanical scope included conversion of the existing 100% outside air unit to a mixed air unit for energy efficiency. The return fan motor was replaced for compatibility with a new variable frequency drive to provide controllable variable air volume operation. Plumbing design included new toilet rooms, lab sinks, laundry and break areas, and modification and expansion of the existing medical gas systems. Electrical design included modifications to the existing power distribution system to accommodate additional loads. Existing lighting, fire alarm, nurse call, and paging systems were replaced to accommodate the new 2nd floor layout.
